Tourism Fiji has announced the upcoming departure of its Chief Executive Officer, Brent Hill, who will be leaving his role at the end of August 2023 to return to Australia with his family. After serving as CEO for four successful years, Hill is credited with significantly transforming the organization and guiding it through challenges posed by the global pandemic.
Andre Viljoen, Chair of Tourism Fiji, praised Hill for his outstanding leadership and strategic vision, which led to record visitor arrivals exceeding one million post-COVID. Under Hill’s guidance, the organization launched two major Corporate Plans and implemented recognized global brand campaigns, including the award-winning “Where Happiness Comes Naturally.”
Hill’s leadership also included advocating for sustainable practices, such as introducing electric vehicles to reduce the carbon footprint of tourism in Fiji. He developed initiatives aimed at supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the tourism sector and created platforms like the Tourism Super Week to foster industry collaboration.
The recent announcement follows a series of proactive measures by Tourism Fiji to enhance the country’s tourism capacity, with plans for new hotel developments and expanded strategic partnerships. Such efforts reflect a broader commitment to sustainability, aiming for substantial growth in Fiji’s tourism sector while ensuring that this development positively impacts local communities.
As Brent Hill steps down, there is a hopeful outlook for Tourism Fiji’s future, with ongoing initiatives that aim to elevate Fiji as a premier destination on the global tourism map. His departure marks a transition point, signaling potential for new leadership to continue building on the strong foundation he helped establish.
