Tourism Fiji has confirmed the resignation of its chief executive officer, Brent Hill, who is set to step down at the end of August to return to Australia with his family. Hill’s departure comes after a four-year term during which he played a pivotal role in transforming Fiji’s tourism landscape, particularly in the recovery phase following the global pandemic.

Andre Viljoen, chairperson of Tourism Fiji, praised Hill’s remarkable leadership, referring to him as “an outstanding CEO and an inspirational leader.” Under Hill’s direction, the organization navigated through unprecedented challenges and achieved significant milestones, including record-breaking annual visitor arrivals, surpassing one million.

His time as CEO was marked by strategic initiatives that included the implementation of two major Corporate Plans, the launch of the award-winning “Where Happiness Comes Naturally” global campaign, and hosting high-profile events such as the Fiji Tourism Expo and the Tourism Convention. Moreover, Hill was instrumental in advocating for sustainability within the industry, introducing initiatives like the use of electric vehicles and campaigns aimed at promoting regenerative tourism.

Viljoen noted that Hill’s influence extended beyond operational leadership; he fostered a culture of inclusivity, innovation, and community engagement. His commitment to boosting local small businesses and establishing sustainable tourism practices has left a lasting legacy in the industry.

Following Hill’s exit, Tourism Fiji is set to conduct a comprehensive search for a new CEO, focusing on candidates who can build upon Hill’s impressive foundation. Viljoen expressed a positive outlook, stating, “While Brent’s presence will be missed, we are excited for him as he begins this next chapter.”

The prospects for Fiji’s tourism industry remain optimistic, as it continues to foster growth with a focus on sustainability and inclusive practices. The departure of Brent Hill marks a transition but also opens doors for new leadership to further elevate Fiji as a premier travel destination in the global tourism market.

As Fiji moves into this new phase, there remains hope that the strong emphasis on sustainability and community engagement will drive the tourism sector toward further success.
