Tourism development in Fiji is currently facing obstacles such as labour shortages, investment delays, and limited hotel capacities. However, the horizon looks promising as the 3rd Fiji Tourism Convention kicks off at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa in Denarau, Nadi.

Jenny Seeto, the Convention Chair, emphasized during the opening ceremony that the event plays a crucial role in revitalizing the tourism industry by addressing significant challenges and exploring innovative solutions for the sector’s advancement.

Over the next two days, the convention is expected to draw approximately 300 participants, including hoteliers, tour operators, community representatives, regional tourism associations, development partners, academia, and government agencies. This diverse gathering aims to reflect on the current state of the tourism sector and envision its future trajectory.

Seeto underscored the importance of the tourism sector as a cornerstone of Fiji’s economy, serving as a catalyst for job creation and a vital expression of the nation’s identity. “Today marks an important day for our tourism sector,” she noted, highlighting that the Fiji Tourism Convention is an opportunity for collective reflection and strategic recalibration.

Despite ongoing hurdles, Seeto pointed out that the tourism sector exhibited remarkable resilience, with nearly one million visitor arrivals recorded last year. This achievement showcases the industry’s strength and the power of collaborative efforts, suggesting that unity and collective focus will drive further growth and success in Fiji’s tourism sector in the coming years. The outcome of this convention may pave the way for a brighter future for tourism, fostering increased opportunities and prosperity for all stakeholders involved.
