Fiji is taking a prominent role in global conversations surrounding governance reform, climate resilience, and sustainable development as it prepares to participate in the World Governments Summit 2026 in Dubai. Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Risk Management Mosese Bulitavu leads the Fijian delegation to this significant gathering that unites leaders from over 150 countries under the theme “Shaping Future Governments.”

The summit, which will feature more than 35 Heads of State and Government along with over 500 ministers, aims to address critical issues such as artificial intelligence, sustainability, human wellbeing, and economic resilience. For Fiji, participation in this high-level forum is not just a matter of symbolic presence; it offers a vital platform to elevate the concerns of Small Island Developing States, especially regarding climate adaptation, disaster risk management, renewable energy initiatives, sustainable tourism, and rural and maritime development.

Furthermore, Fiji is making strides in diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates, with plans underway to establish the UAE’s inaugural embassy in Fiji and the broader Pacific region. This development is anticipated to enhance cooperation and open up new investment avenues, fostering stronger bilateral ties.

Overall, Fiji’s involvement in the summit and its diplomatic initiatives reflect a proactive approach to addressing pressing global challenges while advocating for the unique needs of island nations. The country’s efforts promise to contribute positively to the wider discourse on sustainable practices and governance reform.
