Fiji to Host Sangam World Cup in Lautoka Ahead of Centennial Celebrations

The Sangam World Cup, a prominent event organized by TISI Sangam Fiji, is set to make history as Fiji hosts the tournament for the first time since 2014. Chairperson Upendra Gounder expressed optimism regarding the preparations, highlighting various innovative aspects that will enhance the festival’s experience. The tournament is part of the larger celebrations leading up to TISI Sangam’s centennial anniversary in April 2026.

The competition will take place in Lautoka, commencing on Thursday, with participation from 22 soccer teams divided into Premier, Masters, and Legends divisions. Gounder acknowledged the hard work of team officials and players, thanking them for their involvement in this significant event.

In addition to soccer, the tournament will also include competitions in netball, golf, and snooker, held at venues across Lautoka and nearby Nadi, reflecting a vibrant sports culture in the region. This multi-sport approach not only showcases athletic talent but also strengthens community ties and celebrates cultural heritage among participants and fans alike.

Previously, the Sangam World Cup has been held in countries such as Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The return to Fiji after an 11-year gap marks a pivotal moment for local sports, reinforcing Fiji’s status as an emerging hub for regional competitions. This year’s event, with its expected high attendance, is poised to foster unity and celebration of the Pacific’s diverse cultures through sports.

As excitement builds for the tournament, it represents not just a competition of skill but also a celebration of the spirit of community and cultural connection among those involved. With strong support from local fans, the Sangam World Cup promises an unforgettable experience for all participants and attendees, eagerly anticipating a successful and festive event.
