Rod Dominish, a seasoned member of the hashing community and a familiar face in Fiji, has expressed his enthusiasm for the inaugural Pan Asia-Pacific Hash, which is sponsored by the Pacific Specialist Healthcare Hospital (PSH) and is set to take place in Fiji in September 2027. Dominish, who has visited Fiji nearly 20 times, began his hashing journey with the Sydney Hash House Harriers in 1967 and founded the Wagga Wagga Hash House Harriers in 1974, remaining an active participant ever since.

Currently on holiday with his family at the Wyndham Resort on Denarau Island, the octogenarian looks forward to the upcoming event. “I have been around the world to participate in international hash events, and this is my 20th visit to Fiji,” he shared. Dominish expressed gratitude to the sponsors for their support during this pivotal time for the event.

The Pan Asia-Pacific Hash is scheduled to occur in Nadi from September 16-18, 2027. Event director Dr. Ram Raju, who is also the emeritus grand master of the Nadi Hash House Harriers, emphasized that September is a strategic choice for hosting the event. According to Dr. Raju, the timing allows for participation in various international events leading up to the hash, with the Australian Nashash in March 2025, the 20th Pan Asia Hash in Taiwan in November 2025, and the Interhash in Indonesia in May 2026. He believes that these events will generate momentum and interest leading to a successful outing in Fiji.

Dr. Raju pointed out that September is off-peak season in Fiji, which means more affordable hotel rates and favorable weather conditions—ideal for participants. He expressed confidence that the planning and anticipation will come together to create a memorable experience.

The event is being collaboratively organized by three local Hash House Harrier chapters in Nadi—Nadi, Malolo, and Hospital Hash House Harriers—showcasing a strong sense of unity and community spirit among participants.

This event not only highlights the vibrancy of the hashing community but also positions Fiji as an attractive destination for international gatherings, paving the way for economic benefits and cultural exchange. With the backing of established figures like Rod Dominish and dedicated organizers, the inaugural Pan Asia-Pacific Hash promises to offer a unique blend of sport, camaraderie, and scenic beauty in a welcoming environment.
