Yin Qing Qing, a Chinese national, is set to be deported following the completion of her 10-month prison sentence, as confirmed by Immigration Minister Viliame Naupoto. This deportation procedure is standard for foreigners convicted of crimes in Fiji, ensuring that they serve their sentence before being returned to their home country.

Minister Naupoto emphasized the importance of adhering to court decisions, stating, “She will complete her 10-month sentence before we can deport her back to her country.” He highlighted that this approach applies to all foreign individuals who might commit offenses while visiting Fiji.

Earlier this week, Qing was sentenced by the Suva Magistrate’s Court after being found guilty of working unlawfully while in the country on a tourist visa. Authorities discovered $3,835 in cash in her room at the Yue Lai Hotel and an additional $3,009.98 in her MPAiSA mobile money account, which is suspected to be linked to criminal activity.

Originally, Qing faced more severe charges in September of the previous year alongside her co-accused, Joshua Ravula, related to the unlawful possession of methamphetamine. However, those charges were dropped by the Director of Public Prosecutions in December due to insufficient evidence, leaving Ravula to face the remaining allegations.

This case underscores the strict enforcement of immigration and criminal laws in Fiji, reinforcing the message that violations will result in significant consequences, including deportation.
