Fiji Times Shines at FAME Awards with Major Wins and a Groundbreaking Scoop

The Fiji Times made a significant impact at this year’s FAME Awards, claiming numerous prestigious accolades in both print and digital journalism. Anish Chand, the Managing Editor for Digital, was honored as Journalist of the Year, in addition to winning the award for Print Journalist of the Year.

Expressing his pride in the recognition, Fiji Times Editor-in-Chief Fred Wesley commented, “Here at The Fiji Times we strive to be the voice of the people and hold truth to power. These awards are a reflection of who we are and what we stand for.”

Chand also earned the highly sought-after Scoop of the Year award for his exclusive interview with Military Commander Ro Jone Kalouniwai, featured in the publication’s Lens@177 segment. This story not only ignited national discourse but also highlighted the increasing significance of digital journalism in Fiji.

Sunday Times Editor John Kamea received the award for Best News Article – Print Feature, which acknowledged his exceptional storytelling that captures the essence of rural Fiji. “It’s an honour to receive this award, and I dedicate it to all the men, women, and children who gave my stories meaning, form, and substance,” he said, emphasizing the importance of the narratives he encounters on his journeys.

Journalist Samantha Rina was also recognized for her extensive coverage, winning the All Media – Best Coverage of a Major News Event or Issue award for her notable 20-page insert on Lupus, published in May 2025. The feature provided valuable insights into a condition that is often misdiagnosed and misunderstood. Rina dedicated her award to the Lupus Foundation Fiji and to the courageous patients and survivors who opened up about their experiences.

This year’s FAME Awards not only highlighted the achievements of individual journalists but also celebrated the vital role that journalism plays in shaping public discourse and preserving the rich narratives of Fijian society.
