The Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) has announced new regulations for vehicle imports, set to take effect on January 1, 2025. Under these updated guidelines, only used hybrid vehicles manufactured in 2020 or later, as well as used diesel and petrol vehicles from 2017 onwards, will be allowed entry into Fiji.
The FRCS has specified that any motor vehicle import licenses issued in 2024 for hybrid vehicles from 2019 or older, as well as for diesel or petrol passenger vehicles from 2016 or older, must ensure that their vehicles depart from the country of origin by December 31, 2024. Vehicles that do not meet these criteria and are shipped after this date will be deemed prohibited imports. In such cases, importers would be required to cover the costs of re-exporting these vehicles as they will not be allowed to enter Fiji.
In this context, the FRCS strongly advises all motor vehicle dealers, traders, importers, and the general public to obtain import licenses before shipping vehicles to Fiji. This precaution will help prevent any unnecessary complications or delays upon arrival.
This move reflects Fiji’s commitment towards modernizing its vehicle fleet, which can lead to environmental benefits and improvements in road safety. By encouraging the importation of newer vehicles, Fiji is paving the way for reduced emissions and a more sustainable future.
For individuals and businesses planning to import vehicles, adhering to these new regulations represents an opportunity to align with global best practices while ensuring compliance with local laws.
Summary: The FRCS has introduced new import regulations that allow only newer vehicles into Fiji starting January 1, 2025, encouraging compliance and sustainability in the automotive sector.
