The Fiji Teams Championship is set to unfold this Saturday at the Fiji Golf Club in Suva, featuring a robust lineup of teams from Labasa, Nadi, Ba, Lautoka, Natadola/Denarau, and Pacific Harbour. With over 80 players expected to participate, the event is anticipated to deliver a vibrant atmosphere for golf enthusiasts.

Defending champions Fiji Golf Club enter the competition as favorites, though they are likely to face stiff challenges from other competing clubs. The event not only underscores the competitive spirit of the clubs but also highlights the growing engagement in golf across Fiji.

In a bid to foster greater participation, Golf Fiji has graciously taken on the expenses for all clubs, which includes free entry and lunch for the players. This initiative aims to encourage community involvement and strengthen the sport in the region. James Krishna, the treasurer of Golf Fiji, noted the return of the Labasa Golf Club after a five-year hiatus as a positive sign of the sport’s growth in the country. He reaffirmed Golf Fiji’s commitment to supporting clubs and ensuring the continuity and prosperity of the championship.

Golf clubs will be well represented at the event, with Lautoka Golf Club captained by Krishna himself, and Denarau/Natadola seeing Shakil Pillay at the helm. Experienced golfers Rohit Chandra and Asish Chand will lead Ba Golf Club’s efforts to reclaim the top prize.

Last year, Golf Fiji successfully revived the Fiji Teams Championship, which saw 72 players participate under the auspices of Lautoka Golf Club. This year, sponsorship from Naviti Resort, Paradise Lighting, and Tappoo Group emphasizes a united effort in promoting golfing excellence and community spirit in Fiji.

Overall, the Fiji Teams Championship promises to be an exhilarating showcase of talent, camaraderie, and competitive spirit, reinforcing the vibrant golf culture in Fiji. The event represents a hopeful future for golf in the nation, fostering engagement and strengthening local bonds through this beloved sport.
