Fiji Takes Cybersecurity to the Next Level: Key Review Underway

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica announced that the government is currently reviewing Fiji’s Cybersecurity Maturity Model assessment. This statement was made during the opening of the two-day Fiji Tech Summit 2024, which began at the Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort on Denarau.

Kamikamica explained that the review is being carried out in partnership with the Oceania Cyber Security Centre. He emphasized that the assessment will serve as a cornerstone for the upcoming National Cybersecurity Strategy, designed to establish specific goals for achieving cybersecurity safety and resilience within the nation.

He noted that various cybersecurity trends and protective measures that organizations can adopt to safeguard their vital information will be discussed extensively during the summit. He praised the summit organizers for creating a forum for these crucial conversations, especially in light of the ever-changing landscape of cyber threats.

Kamikamica assured attendees that the Fiji Government is taking cybersecurity seriously and is implementing several initiatives to reach this goal. Among these initiatives is the establishment of the Fiji National Computer Emergency Response Team (Fiji CERT), which is expected to be operational soon and will focus specifically on enhancing the cybersecurity of the populace.

The Fiji Tech Summit, hosted by DATEC Fiji, is scheduled to conclude today.
