Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica announced that the government is currently reviewing Fiji’s Cybersecurity Maturity Model assessment. He made this statement while inaugurating the two-day Fiji Tech Summit 2024 at the Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort in Denarau.
Mr. Kamikamica noted that this review is being conducted in partnership with the Oceania Cyber Security Centre. He explained that the assessment will serve as the basis for the upcoming National Cybersecurity Strategy, which aims to set clear objectives for ensuring the nation’s cybersecurity and resilience.
He emphasized that various cybersecurity trends and protective measures for organizations will be extensively discussed during the summit. He expressed appreciation for the organizers for facilitating discussions on this critical topic, particularly given the rapid evolution of cyber threats.
The Deputy Prime Minister reassured that the Fijian government is committed to addressing cybersecurity issues seriously. He mentioned several initiatives in progress, such as the establishment of the Fiji National Computer Emergency Response Team (Fiji CERT), which is expected to be operational soon and will be dedicated to safeguarding the cybersecurity of the population.
The Fiji Tech Summit, organized by DATEC Fiji, is set to conclude today.
