Fiji Takes Center Stage at UNGA 79: What’s on the Agenda?

The President of Fiji, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, will head a delegation to the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

World leaders will convene for the annual high-level General Debate, which will center on the theme: “Leaving no one behind: acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for present and future generations.” President Katonivere is set to present Fiji’s national statement during this debate next Thursday.

Beyond the General Debate, the Fijian delegation will participate in significant meetings on the sidelines of the General Assembly. The UN General Assembly convenes each September to tackle pressing global issues through specific agenda items and resolutions.

President Katonivere’s involvement in UNGA 79 underscores Fiji’s commitment to international cooperation, sustainable development, and fostering peace, prosperity, and progress worldwide. During his absence, Acting Chief Justice Salesi Temo will assume the presidential duties. President Katonivere is expected to return to Fiji on the 3rd of next month.
