The President of Fiji, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, will head a delegation to the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) taking place in New York.
World leaders are set to convene for the annual high-level General Debate, which will center around the theme: “Leaving no one behind: acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for present and future generations.” President Katonivere is expected to present Fiji’s national statement during the General Debate scheduled for Thursday of next week.
Apart from the General Debate, the Fijian delegation will participate in significant meetings occurring alongside the General Assembly. The UN General Assembly convenes each September to tackle critical global issues through specific agenda items and resolutions.
President Katonivere’s involvement in UNGA 79 underscores Fiji’s ongoing commitment to global cooperation, sustainable development, and the promotion of peace, prosperity, and progress for all. During his absence, Acting Chief Justice Salesi Temo will assume his responsibilities. President Katonivere is slated to return to Fiji on November 3rd.
