Fiji Takes Center Stage at UNGA 79: A Quest for Global Unity

The President of Fiji, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, is set to head a delegation to the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) taking place in New York.

During this annual event, world leaders will convene for the high-level General Debate, which will focus on the theme: “Leaving no one behind: acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for present and future generations.” President Katonivere is expected to present Fiji’s national statement during this debate on Thursday of next week.

Aside from the General Debate, the Fiji delegation will participate in important meetings alongside the General Assembly. The UN General Assembly convenes each September to tackle significant global challenges through various agenda items and resolutions.

President Katonivere’s involvement in UNGA 79 underscores Fiji’s commitment to international cooperation, sustainable development, and the promotion of peace and prosperity for all. During his absence, Acting Chief Justice Justice Salesi Temo will fulfill presidential duties. The President is anticipated to return to Fiji on the 3rd of next month.
