The President of Fiji, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, will head a delegation to the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) taking place in New York.
World leaders will convene for the annual high-level General Debate, which will center on the theme: “Leaving no one behind: acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for present and future generations.” President Katonivere is set to present Fiji’s national statement during the General Debate scheduled for Thursday next week.
In addition to the General Debate, the Fijian delegation plans to participate in several important meetings on the sidelines of the General Assembly. The UN General Assembly convenes every September to tackle pressing global challenges through focused agenda items and resolutions.
President Katonivere’s involvement in UNGA 79 reflects Fiji’s commitment to global cooperation, sustainable development, and the pursuit of peace, prosperity, and progress for all. During his absence, Acting Chief Justice Salesi Temo will assume the presidential role. The President is expected to return to Fiji on the 3rd of next month.
