The Fiji Police Force is set to destroy 4.15 tonnes of methamphetamine today at the Dignified Crematorium, following a High Court order from December 13, 2024. This operation is part of Fiji’s continuous efforts to combat drug trafficking and uphold public safety.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Crime, Mesake Waqa, emphasized that extensive consultations with various stakeholders and authorities have taken place to ensure the destruction process aligns with best practices, particularly regarding health and environmental concerns.

Supervision during the destruction will ensure transparency and uphold the integrity of the Fiji Police. Legal representatives for the defendants involved will be allowed to witness the process under stringent security measures, further guaranteeing accountability. Following the operation, the public will receive detailed information about the event.

This initiative not only reflects the commitment of the Fiji Police, government agencies, and judiciary to protect the community from drug-related issues, but it also represents a collaborative effort to combat drug crime in the region. The commitment to transparency signifies hope for a safer future, as the destruction of such a substantial amount of illicit drugs removes a significant threat from the streets. This action highlights the ongoing progress in addressing the drug crisis and reinforces the determination of authorities to eliminate dangerous substances.
