Parliament has officially approved the Anti-Doping Bill, which aims to establish a drug-free sports environment in Fiji while adhering to the anti-doping requirements outlined in the UNESCO International Convention.
During the parliamentary session, Minister for Sports Jese Saukuru emphasized that this milestone is crucial for upholding the integrity of sports within the country. The Anti-Doping Bill was initially introduced in May of this year.
Minister Saukuru expressed that the legislation signifies the government’s ongoing dedication to promoting clean competition, fairness, and the well-being of athletes. He noted that the bill focuses not only on detection and enforcement but also on prevention and education, aiming to instill a culture of integrity in sports.
The Anti-Doping Bill is designed to safeguard the essence of sports, support athletes’ health, and ensure that Fiji maintains its presence in the global sports arena while adhering to the highest ethical standards.
