Parliament has approved the Anti-Doping Bill, designed to promote drug-free sports in Fiji and establish anti-doping regulations in line with the UNESCO International Convention.
During the parliamentary session, Sports Minister Jese Saukuru emphasized that this measure is crucial for maintaining the integrity of sports in the country.
The Anti-Doping Bill was initially presented in May of this year.
Minister Saukuru stated that the bill reflects the government’s ongoing dedication to ensuring fair competition, the welfare of athletes, and the promotion of clean sports.
He noted that the legislation not only focuses on detecting and penalizing doping but also aims to prevent doping through education, fostering a culture of integrity in athletics.
This Anti-Doping Bill is intended to safeguard the essence of sports, enhance athletes’ health, and ensure that Fiji competes globally with the highest ethical standards.
