Fiji will participate in the inaugural Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children, taking place in Bogota, Colombia this month. The Fijian delegation will be led by Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, Lynda Tabuya, who will be joined by Child Advisor Natalie Siegel-Brown and Director of Children Arieta Tagivetaua.

During the conference, Minister Tabuya intends to highlight the Fijian government’s commitment to combating violence against children and to advocate for the implementation of care blogs in Fiji, similar to those found in Colombia. Care blogs serve as dedicated spaces in Bogota for caregivers and working-class individuals, providing them with much-needed respite from daily challenges.

Minister Tabuya emphasizes that such a program could greatly benefit Fiji, especially for the mental well-being of its workforce and caregivers of those suffering from illnesses like cancer. She envisions these spaces, which cater to childcare, elderly care, and support for people with disabilities, as vital resources for the most vulnerable citizens. They would enable caregivers to attend to their needs, including educational and health-related activities, confidently knowing their loved ones are in a safe and supportive environment.

This initiative reflects a hopeful vision for the future, as it underscores the importance of addressing social welfare and mental health in the community. By sharing insights gained from the conference, Fijian leaders hope to bring transformative ideas back to the nation, contributing positively to the lives of families and children across Fiji.
