Fiji will make its mark at the inaugural Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children in Bogotá, Colombia this month. The country’s delegation will be led by Lynda Tabuya, the Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection. She will be joined by Child Advisor Natalie Siegel-Brown and Director of Children Arieta Tagivetaua.

During the conference, Minister Tabuya is expected to advocate for care blogs or similar programs, which have been successful in Colombia. These care blogs serve as supportive spaces for caregivers and the working class, allowing them to take a much-needed respite from their daily challenges.

Tabuya emphasized the need for such initiatives in Fiji, particularly to bolster mental health support for the working class and caregivers of cancer patients. “Bogotá’s care blogs offer essential services such as childcare, elder care, and care for individuals with disabilities, creating dedicated safe spaces for some of the most vulnerable members of society. I aspire to bring back this transformative idea to Fiji, where it can enhance our community’s well-being,” she stated.

The conference presents a vital opportunity for Fiji to align its strategies with global efforts to combat violence against children, showcasing the nation’s commitment to safeguarding its youth and supporting caregivers.

This engagement in an international dialogue reflects Fiji’s proactive stance in addressing social issues, fostering hope for long-lasting positive change in the lives of its children and families.

In summary, Fiji’s participation in this significant event underlines its dedicated effort to protect children and support their caregivers, aiming to implement effective solutions that can uplift communities back home.
