Fiji will take part in the inaugural Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children in Bogotá, Colombia, this month. Representing the nation will be Lynda Tabuya, the Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection. She will be joined by Natalie Siegel-Brown, the Ministry’s Child Advisor, and Arieta Tagivetaua, the Director of Children.

During the conference, Minister Tabuya plans to advocate for the implementation of care blogs in Fiji, which mirror initiatives in Colombia. She aims to reaffirm the Fijian government’s dedication to combatting violence against children.

Minister Tabuya highlighted the importance of care blogs, which offer respite for caregivers and improve the well-being of the working class. In her view, such programs are vital for a developing nation like Fiji, particularly to enhance the mental health of caregivers, including those attending to cancer patients.

“The care blogs provide childcare, elder care, and support for people with disabilities, creating safe spaces for the most vulnerable groups. This allows caregivers to fulfill essential duties like attending school or accessing health services,” she explained. “I hope to bring back transformative ideas from this conference and implement them in Fiji.”

This conference represents a crucial opportunity for Fiji to showcase its commitment to child welfare and explore innovative strategies to protect and support its children. The engagement in international dialogue underlines the country’s proactive stance in addressing pressing social issues, offering hope for meaningful change.

Overall, the participation of Minister Tabuya and her team emphasizes the global dedication to protecting children, inspired by successful models from around the world.
