Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) has officially introduced its Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) services, which provide an advanced treatment option for various chronic conditions, including wounds, burns, decompression sickness, and diabetic foot ulcers. The launch took place in Nadi and was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad.
The newly installed Hyperbaric Chamber, which will be accessible 24 hours a day, is designed to enhance recovery processes and aims to decrease the incidence of amputations, a pressing health issue in Fiji due to high diabetes-related complications. Professor Prasad pointed out that diabetes significantly contributes to premature deaths, with alarming statistics revealing that amputations occur every 12 hours in the country. He emphasized the urgent need for improvements in health interventions in light of these challenges.
Professor Prasad remarked, “The launch of HBOT is a major step forward in improving health outcomes and reducing the need for amputations.” He also noted that the service is geared not only towards Fijians but could also attract patients from neighboring Pacific Island nations, positioning Fiji as a regional healthcare leader.
Expected benefits of HBOT include faster recovery times and better health outcomes, contributing positively to the overall well-being of the population. “This new service reflects Fiji’s commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure,” he stated. Professor Prasad highlighted potential partnerships with regional healthcare providers and the possibility of attracting medical tourism, further establishing Fiji as a center for advanced medical services.
In addition to the HBOT service, the Deputy Prime Minister launched the Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF) Loyalty Program, which provides discounts on healthcare services to active sugarcane farmers. This initiative is part of a broader goal to support vital agricultural communities in Fiji, ensuring they have access to affordable healthcare.
Prof Prasad underscored the government’s commitment to modernizing Fiji’s healthcare system, mentioning significant projects like the Indian Government-funded 100-bed super-specialty hospital and enhancements to the CWM Hospital. “Healthcare is a key pillar of our development agenda,” he affirmed.
With the launch of HBOT and the SCGF Loyalty Program, PSH is reinforcing its role as a pioneer in healthcare innovation, improving access to state-of-the-art treatments, and enhancing the health of Fiji’s population.
Overall, these developments reflect a hopeful trajectory for healthcare in Fiji, with the government and PSH working collaboratively to create a brighter, healthier future for all citizens.
