Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) has introduced its Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) services, marking a significant advancement in medical treatment for chronic wounds, burns, decompression sickness, and diabetic foot ulcers. The launch was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, during an event in Nadi.

This innovative Hyperbaric Chamber will be operational 24/7, aiming to enhance recovery rates and decrease the necessity for amputations, a pressing issue in Fiji given the escalating rates of diabetes-related complications. Professor Prasad pointed out that diabetes accounts for a staggering rate of amputations in Fiji, with one occurring approximately every 12 hours. He emphasized the importance of this new treatment in reversing such alarming statistics.

Not only will the HBOT service benefit locals, but it is also anticipated to attract patients from neighboring Pacific Island nations, positioning Fiji as a prominent healthcare hub in the region. The therapy is expected to shorten recovery durations and lead to better health outcomes for patients, contributing to the overall improvement of public health.

Professor Prasad expressed that the introduction of HBOT at PSH illustrates Fiji’s dedication to enhancing its healthcare infrastructure. He highlighted the potential for new partnerships with regional healthcare providers and the prospect of medical tourism, reinforcing Fiji’s position as a center for advanced healthcare services.

Additionally, during the launch event, Professor Prasad announced the Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF) Loyalty Program, which provides discounts on healthcare services to active cane growers in Fiji. This initiative aims to make healthcare more accessible and affordable, particularly for those in rural areas, thereby demonstrating the government’s commitment to supporting the agricultural community.

The Coalition Government is actively working to modernize Fiji’s healthcare infrastructure through significant projects, such as a new 100-bed super-specialty hospital funded by the Indian Government, along with enhancements to the CWM Hospital. Professor Prasad reiterated the government’s focus on healthcare as a vital aspect of the country’s development strategy, promising a healthier future for all Fijians.

With the launch of HBOT and the SCGF Loyalty Program, PSH is solidifying its role as a pioneer in healthcare innovation, improving access to advanced medical treatments and contributing positively to the health of Fiji’s population.

This development not only illustrates a forward-thinking approach to healthcare but also signifies a collaborative effort to improve health outcomes in the Pacific region, promising a brighter future for those affected by chronic health issues.
