Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) has officially introduced its Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) services, providing an innovative treatment option for chronic wounds, burns, decompression sickness, and diabetic foot ulcers. The launch took place in Nadi and was inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad.
The Hyperbaric Chamber is operational around the clock and is expected to enhance recovery times significantly while reducing the incidence of amputations. With a concerning statistic of one amputation occurring every 12 hours in Fiji, primarily due to complications from diabetes, this service aims to address a critical public health issue. Professor Prasad emphasized the importance of this initiative in improving health outcomes for Fijians.
He also noted that the availability of HBOT is designed to benefit not only local patients but also to attract individuals from other Pacific Island nations, positioning Fiji as a leader in regional healthcare. The introduction of this treatment aligns with broader efforts to modernize healthcare infrastructure and improve patient care.
In conjunction with the HBOT launch, Professor Prasad announced the Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF) Loyalty Program. This initiative provides discounts on healthcare services for active cane farmers in Fiji, reflecting the government’s commitment to supporting the agricultural community and ensuring access to affordable healthcare, especially in rural areas.
Additionally, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted ongoing projects aimed at enhancing Fiji’s healthcare facilities, including the development of a 100-bed super-specialty hospital funded by the Indian Government and upgrades to the existing CWM Hospital.
Professor Prasad reiterated that healthcare remains a priority in the government’s development agenda, and investments in advanced treatments and infrastructure will lead to a healthier future for all Fijians. The launch of HBOT alongside the SCGF Loyalty Program demonstrates PSH’s commitment to healthcare innovation and improved access to medical services for the citizens of Fiji.
