Taekwondo Fiji is set to organize three significant tournaments in 2024 aimed at fostering consistency in training among young athletes. National coach Neelu Nand emphasized the importance of these competitions, stating that they will provide an opportunity for athletes to demonstrate their skills and vie for a spot on the national team.
The tournaments are expected to take place during the first term school holidays, mid-year, and in December. While specific clubs have yet to be selected for hosting, Nand indicated that Civic Taekwondo, Nakasi, and Suva clubs are likely contenders to host these events in succession.
Currently, there are nine registered clubs under Fiji Taekwondo, including Civic, Suva, Master Ra, Nakasi, Nausori, Sawani, Ba, and Nadi. With an encouraging turnout of around 150 young participants in the past, Taekwondo Fiji is now aiming to increase active participation to about 200 athletes for the upcoming tournaments.
This initiative not only promotes the sport but also cultivates a competitive spirit among young athletes, providing them with a platform to showcase their talents and commitment to Taekwondo.
In summary, Taekwondo Fiji’s efforts to arrange these tournaments represent a promising step towards enhancing youth involvement in the sport, encouraging healthy competition, and supporting the development of future talents.
