Taekwondo Fiji is gearing up to organize three significant tournaments across the country next year. National coach Neelu Nand emphasized that these events aim to encourage young athletes to maintain their training consistency. He noted that the athletes will need to demonstrate their skills to earn a place on the national team.
The tournaments are tentatively scheduled for the first term school holiday, mid-year, and December. Nand has invited major clubs to express interest in hosting these events, with clubs like Civic Taekwondo, Nakasi, and Suva likely to take turns in hosting. Currently, there are nine clubs registered under Fiji Taekwondo, including Civic, Suva, Master Ra, Nakasi, Nausori, Sawani, Ba, and Nadi.
With 150 young athletes participating in past events, the organization is aiming to attract around 200 athletes for the upcoming tournaments. This initiative reflects a strong commitment to developing youth talent in sports and fostering a competitive spirit among young taekwondo practitioners.
Overall, these tournaments present an exciting opportunity for the community to engage in sports, promoting health and teamwork among the youth. By providing a platform for young athletes, Taekwondo Fiji is not only enhancing skills but also creating pathways for future champions.
