A total of 193 swimmers took part in the opening day of the Fiji Swimming Age Group Nationals at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Laucala. The event featured 716 entries from enthusiastic swimmers representing seven clubs: Mako, Barracuda, Dolphins, Seals, Great White Sharks, Tritons, and Orca.
The participants, aged between 10 and 22 years, included one international swimmer from Australia. Fiji Swimming president Lucy Erasito expressed her satisfaction with the event, praising the organizing efforts of the technical committee and the teamwork of club members.
“The swimmers have shown great dedication in their training, guided by local coaches from both the East and West divisions,” Erasito stated. “With seven teams participating, including four from the West and three from Suva, we are poised for an exciting showcase of swimming talent fostered by local trainers.”
Additionally, athletes from the clubs will nominate representatives to the Fiji Aquatics Athletes Swimming Committee, which aims to advocate for their rights and welfare. As the last competitive event of the year, this competition will be succeeded by the Swimming Awards Night, hosted by the Seals Swimming Club in Nadi. This event will celebrate the athletes’ achievements and unify the swimming community for an evening of recognition and camaraderie.
