Fiji Swimmers Make Waves: New Records and Future Plans Unveiled!

Hansel McCaig, a gold medal winner at the Pacific Games, has made a remarkable achievement by setting a new national record in the men’s 100 meters medley. He recorded a time of 57.31 seconds at the World Aquatics Swimming Championships held last week in Budapest, Hungary.

McCaig represented Fiji alongside fellow swimmers Marseleima Moss and David Young, who is based in the U.S. Young also made headlines by setting a new national record in the men’s 50-meter butterfly during the same championship event.

In other developments, Fiji Swimming president Lucy Erasito and board member Eugene Panuve have presented a strategic plan to World Aquatics for the coming four years. This plan was the result of nine months of collaboration with the International Federation, aimed at aligning Fiji Swimming with global standards.

A workshop involving key stakeholders in Fiji Swimming allowed for the refinement of the national swimming body’s vision, mission, and values. Fiji Swimming was able to successfully meet its obligations to World Aquatics through this initiative, gaining insights into the common challenges faced by various national federations, regardless of their size or structure.

In a statement, Fiji Swimming expressed gratitude to both past and current boards for their efforts, emphasizing their commitment to prioritizing the needs of athletes above all else.

This development signifies a hopeful future for swimming in Fiji, showcasing talent while also ensuring strategic growth and prioritization of athletes’ needs. The collaborative efforts with international bodies highlight the willingness to innovate and adapt, which is crucial for increasing competitiveness on the world stage.
