A total of 193 swimmers took part in the opening day of the Fiji Swimming Age Group Nationals held at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Laucala. The event recorded 716 entries from enthusiastic swimmers representing seven clubs: Mako, Barracuda, Dolphins, Seals, Great White Sharks, Tritons, and Orca.
The age range of the participants varied from 10 to 22 years, and included an international swimmer from Australia. Lucy Erasito, the president of Fiji Swimming, expressed her satisfaction with the event, attributing its success to the technical committee and the efforts of club members.
“The swimmers have shown great dedication in their training, guided by local coaches from both the East and West divisions,” Erasito stated. She highlighted the participation of seven teams, four from the West and three from Suva, emphasizing the opportunity for an exciting exhibition of local swimming talent.
Additionally, club athletes will nominate representatives to the Fiji Aquatics Athletes Swimming Committee to advocate for their rights and welfare. This competition marks the end of the year’s events, which will be followed by a Swimming Awards Night organized by the Seals Swimming Club in Nadi. This event will celebrate the athletes’ successes and foster unity within the swimming community for an evening of acknowledgment and togetherness.
