Fiji Strengthens Ties: New Ambassador to UAE Appointed

Siddiq Faizal Riyad Koya was officially appointed today as Fiji’s Ambassador Designate to the United Arab Emirates. The commissioning ceremony was presided over by His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, the President of the Republic of Fiji, who congratulated Ambassador Koya on his new diplomatic role and extended his best wishes for success.

This new appointment is expected to foster greater opportunities for enhancing bilateral cooperation between Fiji and the UAE. In his remarks, Ambassador Koya expressed gratitude to the Fijian government for its trust in him to undertake this important position.

Before his appointment as ambassador, Koya was a Barrister and Solicitor and served as the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Biosecurity Fiji. He earned a Bachelor of Laws with Honors and a Diploma in Higher Education in Law from the University of Wolverhampton in the UK in 1993, and in 1995 he completed a Certificate in Legal Practice from the University of Tasmania.

Koya was admitted to the High Court of Fiji in 1999, where he has handled a variety of cases, including criminal trials, civil disputes, domestic violence, and family law issues such as adoption.

The ceremony was also attended by Lenora Qereqeretabua, the Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala, the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs.
