Fiji Strengthens Defense Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

Two defenders based in London have been included in the 29-member Bula Boys extended squad for the upcoming matches in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Oceania Qualifiers. Scott Wara, who plays for Stafford Rangers, and Josh Qereqeretabua from Charlton Athletic, both of whom have previous experience with the national team in age-group World Cups, will reinforce the defensive lineup.

In addition to the London-based players, the squad features other overseas talents like Captain Roy Krishna, Nabil Begg from Auckland, and Mohammed Raheem along with Gabiriele Matanisiga from Wellington. Goalkeeper Jerome Narayan and midfielder Leroy Jennings are also included from Sydney.

Fiji commenced its qualifying campaign with a 1-0 victory over the Solomon Islands on October 10, with Roy Krishna scoring the decisive goal. They will next compete against Papua New Guinea and New Caledonia in their remaining Group A fixtures next month.

New Caledonia has already begun their campaign with a 3-1 win over PNG in their opening match.

The squad, coached by Rob Sherman, will begin training on Sunday, October 29, at the Fiji FA Academy in Ba.
