Fiji Star Ben Volavola Joins Leicester Tigers for 2024 Season

Ben Volavola has officially joined the Leicester Tigers for the upcoming 2024/25 season. The Fiji international, who can play in various backline positions, boasts a wealth of experience with over 200 professional rugby matches, including 38 Test appearances and participation in two Rugby World Cups.

Volavola has spent the last seven years in France, playing for clubs including Racing 92, Perpignan, and most recently, Agen. Originally from Sydney, Australia, he made his mark in the NSW Waratahs’ senior squad under coach Michael Cheika ahead of the 2013 season, following his representation of Australia Under-20s at the 2011 Junior World Championships.

Leicester Tigers head coach Cheika expressed his satisfaction with the signing, stating, “We’re very pleased to be able to add a player of Ben’s experience and quality to the squad. Ben’s knowledge of northern-hemisphere rugby from his time in France is a plus, and his experience at international level is invaluable. I know he’s a man of good character and will add value to our environment.”

Volavola himself shared his enthusiasm about joining the Tigers: “I am honoured and excited to join this club and this talented group. I’ve been waiting for the right opportunity and after speaking to Michael, I jumped at the chance to come to Leicester and I’m excited to see what we can do this season.”
