The FIJI Water Flying Fijians showcased an impressive second-half resurgence to secure a 33-19 victory against Spain in their third match of the Autumn Nations Series.
The first half saw Spain take an early lead, where they were awarded a penalty try alongside a penalty kick from flyhalf Gonzalo Lopez, putting them ahead 10-7 at the break. Fiji managed to score through winger Ponipate Loganimasi, with Caleb Muntz converting the try.
In the second half, Spain appeared to have the game in hand as Lopez added three more penalties, extending their lead to 19-7. However, Fiji turned the tide starting in the 54th minute with a crucial try from Sireli Maqala, which reignited their hopes.
Fiji continued to build momentum with hooker Sam Matavesi scoring in the 59th minute, followed by a try from Captain Waisea Nayacalevu just four minutes later. The visitors capped off their comeback with a try from debutant Setareki Turagacoke in the 69th minute, and Muntz successfully converted three of the tries.
Looking ahead, the Mick Byrne-coached team is preparing for their final match of the season against Ireland, scheduled for next Sunday at 3:10 am at Aviva Stadium.
