Fiji SPX: Record Dividends and Strong Profits Fuel Investor Confidence

Investor confidence in Fiji’s listed companies is reportedly at an all-time high, according to the South Pacific Stock Exchange (SPX). This renewed confidence follows a series of record-breaking dividend payouts and consistent profitability across the market.

SPX CEO Sheraj Obeyesekere announced that this year saw the highest annual dividend payout ever made by SPX-listed companies, with 18 out of 20 companies distributing a total of approximately $97 million to shareholders. This figure surpasses last year’s record of $76 million and marks two consecutive years of exceptional returns.

Obeyesekere emphasized the significance of this trend, stating, “Companies have a choice to pay dividends. In Fiji, companies are coming forward to pay dividends in an extensive manner to create shareholder value. That is a good sign for us; it means companies value their shareholders.”

Beyond the impressive dividends, 19 of the 20 listed companies reported profits this year, a trend that has been consistently observed over the past several years. This level of performance provides critical reassurance to both current and prospective investors.

“In terms of confidence for our investors, I can say you can have confidence in our listed companies because 19 out of 20 were profitable this year, and have been so for a number of years,” Obeyesekere added.

The SPX sees this momentum as a vital sign of corporate stability, effective management, and a long-term commitment to returning value to shareholders, thus enhancing the investment climate in Fiji. With consecutive record dividend announcements and steadfast profitability, Fiji’s stock market indicates that its listed entities are not only thriving but also dedicated to rewarding their shareholders effectively.
