National sports federations in Fiji looking to embark on overseas tours in the upcoming financial year will have access to a dedicated $5.3 million from the government. This funding is part of a broader allocation of $23.4 million to the Ministry of Youth and Sports in the 2025/2026 national budget, emphasizing the government’s commitment to sports development.
The budget earmarks $3.9 million specifically for hosting international tournaments, while $1.9 million is geared towards engaging sports coaches, illustrating a strategic approach to elevate the quality of sports within Fiji. Additionally, over $1 million will be provided to the Fiji Sports Commission, with $1.4 million allocated for enhancing sports facilities.
The Ministry plans to continue its collaborative efforts with the Fiji Sports Commission and the Fiji Sports Council to foster a coordinated approach toward infrastructure development, athlete nurturing, and community involvement. This includes a significant allocation of $978,261 for the construction of hard courts.
Other notable allocations include $670,000 for the Fiji Sports Council, $185,870 for sports scholarships, and $195,652 towards grants for persons with disabilities. The Boxing Commission of Fiji is set to receive $48,913, while the Community Sports Association will benefit from an equal amount, and the National Anti-Doping Organization will also receive $48,913.
The ongoing support from the government signifies a hopeful stance towards improving sports facilities and resources in Fiji, potentially leading to a more vibrant sports culture. As seen in previous articles, there is a concerted effort within the community and among federations to rally support for athletes and ensure their successful participation in international events, like the upcoming Pacific Mini Games.
These advancements represent a positive trajectory for Fiji’s sports infrastructure and athlete development. With increased investment and strategic planning, the nation can enhance its competitive edge on the global sports stage while fostering a sense of unity and pride among its communities.
