The Fiji Sports Council Board has announced plans to appoint an independent investigator to look into new allegations against the Council. Chair Peniasi Sokia revealed that a special meeting was held on Tuesday, 17th February, with six board members present. The sole purpose of this gathering was to review the allegations and the accompanying documents, as well as to discuss potential actions the Board may take moving forward.
During the meeting, the Board reached a resolution that was unanimously approved by all members. Sokia stated that they are currently in discussions with professional auditors and investigators to assess their availability for conducting a comprehensive investigation. However, he indicated that further comments on the matter will be withheld until an appointment is confirmed.
The decision to take such measures underscores the Council’s commitment to transparency and accountability, and it reflects a proactive approach to addressing concerns raised by stakeholders. By engaging independent experts, the Fiji Sports Council aims to ensure that the investigation is thorough and credible, promoting a positive environment for athletics in Fiji.
