Fiji Sports Awards Shine with Taletawa and Ravutaumada’s Triumphs

Weightlifting Fiji’s Miriama Taletawa has achieved a remarkable feat by winning the Sportswoman of the Year award for the second consecutive time at the 2024 Fiji Sports Awards. This recognition highlights her leadership and outstanding performance in weightlifting, particularly following her notable successes at the Oceania Weightlifting Championships in New Zealand, where she secured a bronze and a silver medal. Last year, she also earned a silver medal in the 76kg category at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships held in Suva.

In addition to Taletawa’s accolades, Selestino Ravutaumada from the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has been honored with the Sportsman of the Year award, reflecting his exceptional contributions to rugby, including representing Fiji in the men’s 7s team and winning a silver medal at the previous year’s Paris Olympics.

The event also saw Weightlifting Fiji winning the Young Female and Male Athlete of the Year awards, which were awarded to Mereia Turaganivalu and Nehemiah Elder, respectively. This showcases the growing talent within the sport and the organization’s commitment to nurturing young athletes.

This year’s Fiji Sports Awards emphasized the achievements of local athletes and served as a beacon of inspiration, demonstrating that dedication and hard work pay off. As athletes and organizations continue to reach new heights, they pave the way for the future of sports in Fiji.
