The 2024 Fiji Sports Awards is set to take place on March 22 at the Vodafone Arena in Suva, as confirmed by Peter Mazey, the executive chairman of the Fiji National Sports Commission (FNSC). This prestigious event will once again recognize the outstanding contributions of athletes, coaches, and sports officials across various categories, which remain unchanged from previous years. These categories include Coach of the Year, Administration of the Year, Technical Official of the Year, Sports Photograph of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Sports Team of the Year, Sports Organisation of the Year, alongside awards for Young Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year, and the Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year.
Nominees for the awards are encouraged to submit their applications by January 31 to allow for the judging process to commence. Tickets for the event will be available online starting in early February, creating excitement as this will coincide with a year that highlights significant sports events such as the Olympics.
Reflecting on past ceremonies, the 2023 awards were noteworthy, with Taniela Rainibogi and Miriama Taletawa receiving the Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year honors, respectively. Rainibogi’s achievements included remarkable performances at the Commonwealth Games and Oceania Championships, as well as setting multiple records in weightlifting. Such performances underscore the dedication and talent within Fiji’s sporting community.
