Fiji is making substantial progress in enhancing the sustainability of its aviation sector by investigating innovative technologies such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and advancing energy efficiency at its airports. This announcement was made by Salaseini Daunbuna, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, during her speech at the Third Regional Aviation Ministers Meeting held in Suva. She underscored the urgent environmental challenges posed by climate change, reaffirming Fiji’s commitment to embrace sustainable practices, particularly in aviation.
Supporting the International Civil Aviation Organization’s carbon offsetting and reduction scheme for international aviation (CORSIA), Fiji is devoted to lowering emissions within its aviation industry. Daunbuna urged for greater regional collaboration to empower small island developing states like Fiji to engage more actively in global sustainability efforts.
Positioned as a key regional hub, Fiji aims to enhance air connectivity among Pacific island nations and to the rest of the world, which is crucial for driving economic growth and tourism.
