After a thrilling 50-19 victory against Tonga in the Pacific Nations Cup, Fiji’s captain Tevita Ikanivere and coach Mick Byrne reflected on the team’s performance and key moments from the game.
Ikanivere, who received the Man of the Match accolade, emphasized the significance of the team’s discussions during the game that shifted momentum in Fiji’s direction.
“We talked about our discipline. We allowed Tonga to gain ground at the end of the first half. With a strong team like Tonga, if you provide them with any opportunity, they will capitalize on it. Our main goal was to uphold our discipline and control, which we successfully did in the second half,” Ikanivere stated.
Coach Mick Byrne highlighted the development and learning opportunities within the team, especially for players in their third year of professional rugby.
“There is significant growth within this team. Many players are in their third year and are learning more about themselves. Today’s match offered them another chance to understand that they cannot ease up,” Byrne explained.
