Fiji Soars to Ninth in World Rugby Rankings After Thrilling Victory

The FIJI Water Flying Fijians have climbed to ninth place in the World Rugby rankings following their convincing 41-17 win over Japan in the Asahi Super Dry Pacific Nations Cup final. This notable advancement comes after a series of thrilling test matches that engaged fans worldwide across different time zones.

Fiji topped Pool A during the tournament eliminations, having achieved victories over strong contenders such as Samoa in Suva and Tonga in Nuku’alofa. Their semifinal match against the USA was a tough battle, but the Flying Fijians demonstrated their tenacity, pulling ahead in the closing moments to reach the final against the host team.

Japan, guided by renowned coach Eddie Jones, significantly progressed throughout the tournament but ultimately fell to a determined Fijian team coached by Mick Byrne, who highlighted the crucial role of nurturing young talent for future success.

As a result of Fiji’s rise in the rankings, Australia has dropped to the tenth position for the first time, while Argentina has moved up to sixth. South Africa now occupies second place, with Ireland maintaining the top spot in the standings.
