Defending champions Fiji made a strong start in the 2024 FANCA Nations Muslim World Cup in Lautoka by defeating Australia 2-0. The team, featuring notable players such as goalkeeper Mohammed Alam, Zibraaz Sahib, Abbu Zahid, Afraz Ali, William Valentine, Usman Omede, Ramzan Khan, and Nabil Begg, showcased their strength under the guidance of coach Mohammed Ashif Khan. The goals for Fiji were scored in the first half by Suva representative Khan and Ba’s Begg.

In other matches on the opening day, New Zealand also secured a 2-0 victory against the United States. In the Masters Division, Fiji and New Zealand battled to a 1-1 draw, while Canada triumphed over the USA with a decisive 3-0 win. Meanwhile, in the Legends Division, Australia and New Zealand ended their match in a goalless draw, and defending champions Canada demonstrated their prowess against Fiji with a score of 4-1.
