The Bula Boys concluded their participation in the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Prime Ministers Cup, securing second place after Papua New Guinea. In their final match, Fiji showcased a dominant performance against the host nation, the Solomon Islands, winning 3-1.
Gabriel Matanisiga initiated the scoring for Fiji in the 33rd minute, setting the tone for the match. Sairusi Nalaubu extended the lead just before halftime, netting a goal during injury time to give Fiji a 2-0 advantage at the break. Thomas Dunn solidified the victory by adding a third goal in the 56th minute. Although Atkin Kaua managed to score for the Solomon Islands in the 79th minute, Fiji maintained their composure to see out the remainder of the match and preserve their lead.
Earlier in the day, Papua New Guinea triumphed over Vanuatu with a score of 2-1, thereby clinching the tournament title with a total of 10 points. The Fijian team, coached by Marika Rodu, finished with 8 points, boasting two wins and two draws throughout the tournament.
This result reflects the strong performance by Fiji, demonstrating their resilience and potential in the tournament despite finishing as runners-up. The experience gained from this competition could serve as motivation for future matches and tournaments.
