The Bula Boys concluded their participation in the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Prime Ministers Cup held in Honiara, Solomon Islands, finishing in a commendable second place, just behind Papua New Guinea.
Fiji wrapped up their tournament campaign on a high note, remaining unbeaten throughout the matches. In their final outing, they showcased their strength by defeating the host nation, Solomon Islands, with a score of 3-1. Gabriel Matanisiga kickstarted Fiji’s scoring in the 33rd minute, followed by Sairusi Nalaubu netting another just before halftime, leaving Fiji with a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break.
The match was sealed with Thomas Dunn scoring the third goal in the 56th minute. Although Atkin Kaua managed to pull one back for the Solomon Islands in the 79th minute, Fiji’s experienced players effectively managed the remainder of the match, ensuring their lead remained intact.
Earlier, Papua New Guinea secured the championship title after their victory over Vanuatu with a score of 2-1, finishing the tournament with a total of 10 points. Meanwhile, Fiji, under the guidance of coach Marika Rodu, earned eight points, achieving two wins and two draws.
