The Bula Boys wrapped up their participation in the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Prime Ministers Cup held in Honiara, Solomon Islands, finishing in a commendable second place, following Papua New Guinea. Throughout the tournament, Fiji showcased their talent and resilience, remaining unbeaten and concluding their campaign with a decisive 3-1 victory over the host nation, Solomon Islands, in their final match.
Gabriel Matanisiga got Fiji on the scoreboard with a well-executed goal in the 33rd minute. This momentum continued as Sairusi Nalaubu netted the second goal just before halftime, leaving Fiji with a comfortable 2-0 lead. Thomas Dunn then extended their advantage further with a goal in the 56th minute. Although Atkin Kaua of the Solomon Islands managed to pull one back in the 79th minute, Fiji expertly maintained their lead until the final whistle.
Earlier on the same day, Papua New Guinea secured the championship title by defeating Vanuatu 2-1, finishing the tournament at the top of the standings with 10 points. Meanwhile, Fiji concluded their journey with 8 points, garnered from two wins and two draws, under the guidance of coach Marika Rodu.
The Bula Boys’ performance reflects their growth and potential in regional football, suggesting a promising future for the team as they build on their achievements in competitions like the MSG Prime Ministers Cup.
