The Bula Boys concluded their journey in the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Prime Ministers Cup held in Honiara, Solomon Islands, securing the runner-up position, just behind Papua New Guinea. Fiji finished the tournament undefeated, showcasing their prowess in a decisive 3-1 victory against the host nation, Solomon Islands, in their final match.
Gabriel Matanisiga opened the scoring for Fiji in the 33rd minute, followed by Sairusi Nalaubu who netted another goal just before halftime, allowing Fiji to lead 2-0 at the break. Thomas Dunn added a third goal for Fiji in the 56th minute, further solidifying their lead. Although Atkin Kaua managed to score for the Solomon Islands in the 79th minute, Fiji maintained their composure to close out the match with the score intact.
Earlier in the day, Papua New Guinea claimed the championship title by defeating Vanuatu 2-1, finishing the tournament at the top with a total of 10 points. Meanwhile, under the guidance of coach Marika Rodu, the Fijian team secured eight points, culminating from two wins and two draws.
This performance marks a significant achievement for Fiji as they demonstrated consistent skill and teamwork throughout the tournament. As they look to the future, the Bula Boys can build on this experience to further strengthen their competitive edge in upcoming events.
