Fiji has secured a place in the quarterfinals of the HSBC Dubai 7s after a decisive 42-20 victory over the USA in their second pool match. Demonstrating improved performance, the South Sea Islanders claimed a vital win ahead of their final pool match against the New Zealand 7s.

Fiji faced an early challenge but quickly found their rhythm, establishing a 21-10 lead by halftime. The USA’s Lucas Lacamp initially scored the game’s first unconverted try, but Fiji swiftly responded with three consecutive tries. Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Filipe Sauturaga, and Joji Nasova each crossed the try line, with Sauturaga successfully converting all three.

Joji Nasova added his second try just nine minutes in, although the USA’s David Still managed to narrow the gap with a try of his own. The momentum seemed to shift briefly when USA’s Faitala Talapusi powered through tackles for another USA try at the ten-minute mark. However, Fiji’s Iowane Teba secured two more tries, cementing their lead beyond the USA’s reach.

In the closing moments, the USA added a final consolation try through Jack Wendling, but Nasova, Teba, and Terio Veilawa each contributed with conversions in the second half to finalize Fiji’s impressive tally.

This win not only boosts Fiji’s confidence going into their next match but also showcases the team’s resilience and ability to perform under pressure. With strong teamwork and skillful plays, they have a good chance of progressing further in the tournament.

Indeed, as Fiji continues on this positive trajectory, fans can remain hopeful for more exciting performances in the upcoming rounds of the HSBC Dubai 7s.
