Team Fiji has concluded the Pacific Mini Games in Koror, Palau, securing an impressive third place in the overall medal standings. The team finished with a total of 22 gold medals, 27 silver, and 21 bronze, showcasing their strong athletic performance throughout the event.

Dominating the competition was Tahiti, which took first place with an astonishing 64 gold medals, followed by Samoa in second with 27 gold medals. Australia, although tied with Fiji in gold medals, landed in fourth place due to fewer silver and bronze medals.

Fiji’s athletics team significantly contributed to the medal tally, particularly excelling in track and field events. Among the highlights, Loata Lewageena earned silver in the senior women’s discus throw with a notable throw of 48.15 meters, while Brienna Rabakewa secured bronze in the same event with a throw of 45.26 meters. Frederico Miller also claimed silver in the men’s triple jump with a leap of 13.89 meters, and Samuela Vunivalu brought home a bronze with a jump of 13.70 meters.

Furthermore, Fiji’s track events delivered remarkable successes. Errol Qaqa shined in the men’s 100m hurdles, winning gold with a finishing time of 14.59 seconds. Yeshnil Karan showcased endurance by winning gold in the men’s 5000m with his impressive time of 15:27.62. Heleina Young also made her mark, clinching gold in the women’s 400m, further enhancing Fiji’s stature in athletics.

These achievements at the Pacific Mini Games not only highlight the individual talents of the athletes but also foster a strong sense of national pride.
