Fiji Shines at World Chess Olympiad with Victories Over Palau and Netherlands

Team Fiji achieved notable victories against multiple countries at the 45th World Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary.

The Fiji Open Team successfully faced a formidable challenge from Palau, with Board 1 Candidate Master Manoj Kumar managing a well-fought draw against John Ranel Morazo. On Board 2, CM Rudr Prasad triumphed over Junior Santiago Tan, while CM Ronald Terubea secured victory against Angelo Salvadora. Additionally, Yash Krishen Maharaj from The University of the South Pacific won against Junior Manuel Mahor. Overall, the Fiji Open team emerged victorious against Palau.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Women’s Team celebrated a win against the Netherlands. In other highlights, CM Ronald Terubea held Shaief Chashawa of Suriname to a draw, and WFM Kieran Lyons achieved a challenging draw against Women’s International Master Gabriella Johnson from Trinidad and Tobago.
